Happy Birthday Baby Dan!

Happy Birthday Baby Dan! That's what we used to say to him when he was little. He's not so little anymore. My son turns 13 today! Yikes! Where did the time go?

Looking back on these pictures he has grown up so fast. From the little boy that used to scoot across the floor to our room to the young man now that hangs off the end of my couch when he lays down. He's been a lot of fun.

When turning 13 tradition in most cultures is that this is when you become a "man". What does that mean?

Over the last three years I've been trying to instill in him the things that are important and that as a man that he must do (Love God, Love Others, Do Good and Love your Momma!) I think he's done pretty well on all of these although there have been times that this King has had to remind the Prince to treat the Queen with a little more respect ( I tell her it's just the male part of him trying to assert himself).

We've gone through a book study on becoming a man. So, now I guess it's time to take the test and see how he flys.

Happy Birthday Daniel--I love you son and pray God's richest blessings on you in your year of "Becoming a man!"

Happy Birthday Mom...You Would Have Been 91 Years Young Today

Today would have been my Mom's 91st birthday.  She's been gone almost 6 years now and there are some days that I wish that I could just pick up the phone and call her.  In fact the last time I heard her voice was on a phone call (she usually called on Friday nights to check in on our week). I regret not taking more time to savor that call because it was the last real conversation that we had and that she understood.

So, I'm thinking of her today and glad in some ways that she's not here to see the condition of the world (she was a worry wort of sorts and the last few years with war and terrorism really got her stirrred up).  I'm sure she's a little less frustrated now that she can see the whole thing from heaven.

But I do miss her and think of her every July 6!  Happy Birthday Mom!  You would have been 91 years young today.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today would have been my Dad's 93rd birthday. He passed away in 1993, but I still remember his birthday.
I'm the age now that he was when I was born and there are things rolling through my mind that I certainly wish that I could ask him. There were some decisions that he made about that time that changed the course of our family. I'm wondering if we're not in the same position--or is it just that age when you begin to re-evaluate things?

He never served in big churches, never served on a high profile board or was elected to office. Yet, in his life he made an impact on many lives.

Happy Birthday Dad! I miss you.

Happy Birthday To Me!

It's my birthday! Yippee! I'm 46 today (ok, now I'm not saying Yipee!!)

This is me and my twin brother, Jon. We're spending the day together with he and his family and the rest of my immediate family.

It's funny being 46--I still remember being 6! My how time flies.

Oh well, Happy Birthday to me!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAN!

Twelve years have gone by today son; it seems just like yesterday when they were telling me you were on the way. I can remember the moment you entered this world-screaming at the top of your lungs.

Twelve years have passed by; so many parties and places and friends. I hope this day you'll have a blast as you play with your block buddies and enjoy the last days of summer.

Thanks for the joy you've brought to our lives...and by the way, stay out of my ice cream sandwiches in the ice box!

Sweet 16---Happy Birthday Taylor

Sixteen years ago today a big bundle of energy entered our lives. I guess that's why I awoke early this morning... remembering back how she kept us up all night of the 15th and into the morning of the 16th.
She came into the world with her eyes wide open and ready to see everything. She hasn't changed much--she wants to see and do everything.

It's hard to look at her now and realize that bundle of joy is almost through with High school and is learning to drive (boy are we learning).
Anyway, Happy Birthday Taylor. We love you and want you to have a special day today. You're only 16 once.
