I was wondering how many times that I had celebrated the 4th of July on a Sunday.
I remember the 1976 celebration ( America's 200th) and all of the church bells ringing on that day. So I checked and found this site that told me how many times that the 4th had fallen on a Sunday.
In my lifetime it has only fallen this way 6 times ( and only twice in my ministry time).
I remember 1993 having to rush back from a wedding in Missouri on Saturday night July3. We awoke to the news that our early flight out of Springfield was cancelled and that we would have to scramble to get back to our church ( complete with a US Representative speaking and choir specials--yikes!) I remember taking a very long nap that afternoon.
1999--I don't remember much about it. I think we did something special.
2010--I wrestled what to do this year and since we were having a combined service, I knew I'd need some direction. The video from Shift Worship gave me a jumping off point to start the service off with our duty to honor Christ first and country second. I thought that this gave us great perspective on the day.
What did your church do today?
